LinesToGo On Motorhead Garage

Replacing old fuel lines can be difficult, especially on older trucks where rust and corrosion are common. A while back, LinesToGo was featured on Motorhead Garage - together we showed their audience how a sectioned, stainless-steel fuel line kit makes the job faster, easier, and safer. Let's take a look back at the highlights of that visit and review some hands-on, real world tips that will help with your line install:

The Issue With Factory Fuel Lines

Factory fuel lines are installed before the body goes onto your vehicle. This creates several problems:

  • Factory lines are one very long piece - not a big deal during vehicle production, but a very big deal for vehicle owner installation.
  • Rusted lines or swollen fittings are hard to disconnect - and we're talking little-to-no tolerance in many cases...knuckles beware!
  • Plastic sections cannot be cut or re-flared - plastic lines are a one-trick-pony and there's no safe way to salvage them.
  • Fishing long lines through brackets is time-consuming - and you're likely to damage the line or destroy the brackets in the process.

These issues can make fuel line replacement a big job, especially on older trucks in rusty climates.

How LinesToGo Solves the Problem

LinesToGo designs sectioned stainless-steel fuel line kits that install much easier than factory lines.

  • Each kit comes in sections, so you can route and install them piece by piece.
  • Sections simply snap into the factory clips.
  • Flexible hoses connect the front and rear sections.
  • LinesToGo offers lines made from 304 stainless steel, practically eliminating future rust and corrosion.

This design saves hours of labor and eliminates the struggle of feeding a full-length line through the chassis.

How To Use Quick-Disconnect Tools

Many trucks use quick-disconnect fittings. These make removing the old lines a breeze - that is unless they've rusted in place.

Old connectors can fail because rust causes the metal line inside the connector to swell. This makes the spring hard to release, and the connector may come apart internally when removed. Using pre-made stainless-steel fuel lines avoids this problem entirely. Here’s how the Motorhead Garage crew removed them safely:

Tools You Need:

Steps to Disconnect Fuel Lines:

  • Remove the safety clip with the help of a screwdriver.
  • Insert the quick-disconnect tool until it releases the internal spring.
  • Pull the line free from the connector.

Removing Old Fuel Lines

In the video, the team cut the old fuel lines into sections for easier removal.
This is often necessary because the original lines are too long to pull out in one piece, and rust makes them brittle or stuck into the clips. Brackets and frame rails often block access. LinesToGo replacement lines are pre-sectioned, making for easy fitment.

The original lines on the truck were galvanized, but this only lasts about 5–6 years in northern climates, while LinesToGo’s 304L stainless-steel fuel lines will last the life of the vehicle.

Installing The New LinesToGo Sections

To reach the fuel tank connections, the team made some smart adjustments:

  • Removed the fuel cooler for better access.
  • Loosened the ABS module to create room.
  • Snapped the new lines into the existing OE clips.

LinesToGo includes every section required for the specific vehicle, in this case that also meant the fuel cooler line. This ensures factory-correct routing from the tank to the high-pressure connection.
