Fuel leaks are something that unfortunately happen all too often. Many trucks have problems with fuel lines leaking, including Chevy, GMC and Silverados, but those aren’t the only ones. Preliminary Inspection

For the preliminary inspection, you will have to be sure that your vehicle is supported fully by jack stands. Make sure that you have a flashlight handy to find the fuel lines. Once you’ve found the fuel line, trace it from the fuel tank to the engine and back. When you trace, be sure that you are looking for spots that could be evidence of a leak. Be sure not to get these possible leaks confused with accumulated road grime and dust. If you find fuel dripping from the fuel line or any other components while under your vehicle, try to look more into the problem. Be sure that you keep environmental factors in mind, including wind, rain and gravity, for these can affect the fuel’s path of travel, making it look like there is a leak where there isn’t.

Dyes

Using dyes to locate a fuel leak is another way to make your job of finding a leak easier. All you have to do is add a product that is safe for your gasoline or diesel tank. Essentially, these dyes will help you locate a leak easier by glowing under ultraviolet and fluorescent light. After you add the dye to your vehicle's fuel tank, run the engine and check the undercarriage of your car for leaks.
